"King
of the Cowboys"
Buck
Taylor was born on 1857 in Taos, Texas. At age 15 he hired
on for his first trail, pushing cattle from NW Texas to Wyoming.
When he returned the following year he was hired on as trail
boss to do the same run, which he did that time by recruiting
the help of his brother, Baxter. When they reached Wyoming,
Baxter fell in love with the land and decided to stay. Buck
headed back to Texas but stopped on his way in North Platte,
Nebraska where he was hired on as a hand by William F. Cody.
Cody, seeing the rugged man;s abilities with horses and a
rope, decided to add him to his "Wild West Show" where Buck
Taylor became one of his top drawing attractions for many
years. He was dubbed "Buck Taylor, King Of the Cowboys" by
Cody.
Buck
tried to start his own Wild West show in 1903 but it failed
miserably and with that he retired to West Chester, Pensylvania
to live out his years and tell stories of the west to the
children. He died in October of 1924.
